Siân Harrington, Editor, HR magazineLetter from the Publisher

Every year HR magazine compiles the HR Most Influential ranking: the definitive list of directors and thinkers who have the greatest influence in the field of people strategy.

The ranking for HR Most Influential 2013 was unveiled in front of 100 top HR directors, CEOs and academics at Claridge's on the evening of Monday 16 September, 2013 and you can find all the details of this year's ranking, the biographies of those who appear on the lists and much much more on this dedicated website.

The 2013 lists are created using the following criteria:-

 HR Practitioners

  2. Practical relevance
  3. Commercial/service impact
  4. Visibility and sharing information
  5. Working in a complex business/organisation
  6. Influential in past year
  7. Tenure (more than two years in a role)

 HR Thinkers

For the first time HR magazine is also recognising the most influential HR practitioners in different sectors and those who our expert panel regards as up and coming. We will be unveiling these names in a special free supplement, available to download in HR’s app in November this year.

On this microsite you can read all about the 2013 ranking - the people the HR sector thought had the most influence during 2013.

The site also contains top-level insights from our research partner Ashridge Business School and sponsors Ceridian and KPMG as well as video interviews with some of those who make our 2013 list.

All our archived features and rankings since 2008 are also available so you can see how the sector's perception of influence has changed in the past five years.

I welcome your feedback, updates and ideas for the further development of HR Most Influential. Please feel free to contact me on sian.harrington@markallengroup.com

Building a business case for change – recent trends

Nick Laird, CCO at Ceridian discusses some of the changes he is seeing in HR and wider business practice. Last year, Ceridian in the UK dealt with 170 situations, where companies decided to make substantial changes. These all, big or small, required some commercial assessment to be done; some implicitly, others much more explicitly. Over the last ......
